ICE PLAY at Milford on Sea Pre-School

ICE PLAY
Milford Pre-School youngsters are taking part in ‘Postcard to Paris’. Despite a real lack of picture books, the school managed to find something suitable on climate change and the Arctic! It was all part of the pre-school’s focus on energy, and some of the children’s responses to questions showed that they knew exactly what this was about. What better place to begin than in the Arctic and what better animal to focus on than the polar bear. Playing with ice, enriching their vocabulary with words such as ‘melting’, ‘freezing’, ‘solid’ and ‘liquid’ the Milford children learnt in a simple and imaginative way about changing climate. It is wonderful that the voices of such young children will be heard in the Paris COP21 climate change talks.
Penguins were inevitably brought in: a chance to explain that while they could inhabit the same large play tray as the polar bear, they were not animals of the Arctic.
