Pennington Junior School’s Ex-Bats

PJS children are enjoying the wonderfully rewarding experience of rehoming a few ex battery hens At the moment they remain in their coop because like all battery hens, they have never been able to express some of their most natural behaviours such as foraging, scratching the ground or nesting to lay their eggs. The PJS children will have the satisfaction of seeing them being able to do this for the first time.
In few weeks, these slightly scruffy looking hens that PJS have re-homed will have re-feathered and will be allowed out into the school’s small orchard. Apart from the satisfaction of giving these girls their freedom, they will doubtless reward children with a few fresh eggs on the way!
