New forest School: The Success of Forest Fridays
Published on 2015-10-01 by Gill Hickman
The New Forest school runs its own superb version of Forest Schools where learning outside the classroom is a natural extension of learning inside the classroom! The school says, “The children have loved visiting the forest on a Friday this term. We have continued to focus on science but with a cross curriculum theme. The year 5 and 6 children had an orienteering competition, and years 3 and 4 linked their learning by building their own 'henges' after visiting Stonehenge. In years 1 and 2 the children painted watercolours and took close up photographs of the plants they found.” Forest Fridays are something that the school is justifiably very proud of and Caroline Whittaker was asked to give a presentation of her work at the New Forest Schools' Conference. Photos show children’s huge enjoyment of these days.
